In Oct. the first iteration of the Rhino Run took place in South Africa. After being delayed by covid for 2 years the first 32 adventurous souls lined up at the starting line. Among them was Abdullah Zeinab and Kevin Benkenstein who would establish and early lead in the race that they were able to keep until the end. Their battle for first place is the stuff of Hollywood movies, caulk full of drama, despair, hope, and, of course, an epic battle at the very end that would result in Abdullah pulling ahead by a mere 17 minutes.
On today’s episode we get to know Abdullah and some of his other accomplishments in cycling leading up to his impressive win at Rhino Run. Including a win at the 2018 Indian Pacific Wheel Race, a course record at the 2019 TransAm, and his 2021 24 hour World Record attempt.
The Rhino Run was originally scheduled to start in 2020, but was delayed for 2 years due to Covid. It start in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa and ends in Windhoek, Namibia and boast 2,750km (or 1,700 miles). This is a traditional bikepacking race where riders are self supported and the clock doesn’t stop until you reach the finish.
