In 2022 Miron Golfman set a new FKT on the Baja Divide. Then he set his sites on an even bigger challenge in 2023 by attempting to race the Iditarod Invitational, the Tour Divide, Colorado Trail, and the Arizona Trail Race, all in a calendar year. A feat that I’ve never heard of anyone attempting before.
In January of this year Miron won the 1000 miles Iditarod Trail Invitational with a time of 16d 21h 29m. Thus starting his year off on the right path. In June he lined up at the group start for the Tour Divide with high hopes after strong performances on the Baja Divide and ITI. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw for medical reasons (discussed this episode). His misfortune gave me an opportunity to meet him at the end of the Tour Divide this year. After he withdrew from the race he drove down to the end to help riders as a finished, showing his true love for this sport and his fellow competitors.
He then turned his focus to the Colorado Trail Race for redemption. If redemption would come it wouldn’t come easily. Miron started the race with a broken hand and by Silverton he posted on social media that he was out of the “race”, but would still finish as a “speed tour”. Spoiler alert: Miron would go on to win the CTR with a broken hand and dealing with stomach issues the whole time. That story is the subject of todays episode.
