Ep. 137 ~ Patrick Rides the East Texas Lowdown

In October my friend Connor (Natalie joined us on day one) and I were the first ones to ride a new route I created as part of the East Texas Showdown. This one is called the Lowdown and is for participants who want to ride (not race) and enjoy the East Texas Piney Woods with a group of other riders. It’s 160 miles with a little over 5,000 ft of elevation with four camping options and plenty of resupply points. Of course, you don’t have to wait to ride it, the route has been vetted and you can find the file below.

This was my first bikepacking trip in six months and we were blessed with a window of good weather that made this trip particularly enjoyable. On today’s episode I share why it’s been so long since I went on a bikepacking trip, some thoughts going into this ride, and I take my recorder with me and share updates along the way.

Overall, it was a great few days on the bike that left me eager to do more and challenge myself further. Next up for me, I’m planning to do an ITT (Individual Timed Tour) of the new 400 mile Showdown route and in October I’ve set a goal of doing the AZT 300 group start, something I’ve been dreaming about for years. I’ll be sharing those experiences with you as they happen. For now, enjoy an episode from this trip, along with some pictures, and go ride this damn route if you fancy!
