Ep. 121 – Manu Cattrysse & Adrien Liechti, Tour Divide 2nd & 3rd Place

We continue our Tour Divide coverage with an interview from this years 2nd and 3rd place finishers, Manu Cattrysse and Adrien Liechti. This year I drove to the finish line of the Tour Divide to meet with finishers and record some podcast with anyone who was willing. On last weeks episode I chatted with First Place finisher Sofiane Sehili. This weeks episode takes place at Jeff Sharps kitchen table in Hachita, NM the day after Manu and Adrien finished their Tour Divide.

I was able to meet both of these guys in Antelope Wells to take their pictures and give them a ride back to the Bike Ranch. This was one of my favorite experiences from this trip. Getting to hang out with legends like this one on one right after finishing one of the hardest races on earth! Almost equally enjoying was making breakfast for them the next morning. First course was oatmeal, followed by chocolate ice cream, while I made them pancakes. After the interview the pork chops were ready. I joked that someone should start an eating competition at the end of the Divide!

Before Adrien’s race even started, his challenges began. His bike and all of his gear were lost during transit. In a desperate attempt to acquire everything needed to tackle the Tour Divide he put out a call on social media. Manu answered that call and built up his personal Salsa Cuthroat for Adrien to use. With only 5 days before the race started Adrien was able to source everything he needed to race Tour Divide, in no small part thanks to Manu who provided the bike! It makes this story even sweeter when you consider that the whole time Adrien was chasing down Manu, he was doing it on his own bike!
