Black Lives Matter

Friends, we can no longer be silent. Being a non-racist is not enough, we need to be anti-racist and create the change that is so desperately needed. Please listen to this message about what Bikes or Death, and I, are doing and how you can help.

Can’t listen right now, here’s the TLDR;

  1. I will use my platform to have conversations with POC so we can all grow, learn, and inspire.
  2. I’m also partnering with Bikepacking Roots BIPOC Adventure Grant program. Starting today 1% of all BoD proceeds will be donated to this grant program (proceeds coming from webstore sales, patreon contributions, and event promotions, etc).

My hope is to find ways to reach POC and inspire them to seek out the outdoors (hopefully on a bike), by partnering with Bikepacking Roots they are creating the financial bridge that may prevent many from participating.

I’d like to encourage other businesses in this space to estable their own 1% for BPR BIPOC Adventure Grant program. As a sport and a sector in the outdoors we are embarrassingly white, we are part of the problem. Let’s do better!

  1. Patrick, Wow I felt so glad to hear your thoughts on this subject. I absolutely love cycling, but I have always felt a little uncomfortable that it’s a rich white man’s sport. And it makes sense – quality bikes, all the gear and apparel, and the time to go on long rides all cost money. But it is kind of embarrassing too. I hope your work can make a difference in diversifying who we see out there cycling and who we ride with. Cheers to you bud. Count me in as a new subscriber.

    • Madison, thank you so much for your feedback. I’m happy to be one of many in this arena that are making changes to improve this sector for BIPOC. Let’s hope that we can make a real difference! Welcome:)
